OUR SISTER BOATS OUTSIDE LONDON
THE OXFORDSHIRE NARROWBOAT TRUST
They run the beautifully designed community narrowboat VENTURER (which includes wheelchair facilities) in the Oxford area (pictured above is Mike Stanley steering the Venturer beside Tarporley at the end of a joint venture to accompany the Sir Steve Redgrave Charitable Trust‘s, Thames Jubilee Walk 2002.) Their aim is to run a great variety of cruises for able-bodied parties which helps subsidies the less fortunate to also enjoy our waterways.

Dacorum Narrow Boat Project
The Decorum Narrow Boat Project is based in Hemel Hempstead on the Grand Union Canal, Hertfordshire. They have operated the Belfast since 1971, which is a true sister boat to Tarporley being a 'Big Woolwich Town Class' working boat converted as a community narrowboat. The boat is used mainly by youth groups, and accommodates 12 passengers.

Reach Out Projects

The Angel 2 is a 70 foot community narrowboat operated by the Islington Narrowboat Association, pictured above going past Tarporley at the Waterside Inn, Battlebridge Basin.

The Pirate Club
The Pirate Club operate two community narrowboats from their base near Camden Lock. The Pirate Princess is available for canal boat holidays of 2 to 7 days. Their second boat the Pirate Viscount is a day trip boat, both boats accommodate 12 passengers.

The Laburnum Boat Club is a community-based boating project on the Regent’s Canal in Hackney. It has a number of services, one of which is its Community Narrowboats. It runs skippered narrowboat trips for youth, community, education, and welfare groups.

They run two boats: the "Lady Mildmay" and the "Opportunity". Both are day-boats ie. not residential.
They have a large foredeck, cabin/galley space, toilet and reardeck. They are short enough to turn anywhere on the canal. Significantly, the "Lady Mildmay" is fully wheelchair accessible !

Max. number of passengers per boat: 12. Half-day trip per boat per group: £40.

River Thames Boat Project
The River Thames Boat Project is a charity who operate a fantastic community barge the Richmond Venturer. The boat is fully accessible to wheelchair users, and is available for day or residential cruises for groups of up to twelve people. She can also be moored for use as a floating classroom for larger groups or for meetings, conferences, business lunches and parties.
